Completed NEA

Dear Moderator,

My name is Maisy Hills. Welcome to my A Level Media Studies blog. This is a record of the work I have undertaken for the Making Media Non-examination Assessment (NEA) within the OCR H409 GCE A Level course in Media Studies.

I worked independently on Brief 3: Magazine and Online to produce the front covers and contents pages for the first two editions of a film magazine called Pan and Tilt together with the magazine's accompanying website.

Research and Planning

Further down in my blog you will find evidence of my research and planning for this task.

Magazine Covers and Contents Pages

Magazine first edition cover and contents page

Magazine second edition and contents page

Magazine Website

The link to my website, which was created using Wix, can be found at the link below.

The magazine consists of a homepage and a single linked page. This page can be accessed by clicking on FEATURES

NEA Task 21 (Planning) : Photography planning

 1. Who will you be using as your models for each photograph (bear in mind that your photographs need to show representation of two distinct social groups)

For the two main front cover photos I am going to use one of my friends either Malak or Phoebe and Josh. This means there will be a clear representation of both different social groups, male and female and ethnic groups. For other photography such as my contents pages and website, I shall use a range of images some with no models and others with other male and female friends which may act as actresses, directors and producers.

2. What thought needs to be given to the following elements of mise-en-scene?

Location for photography?

Due to the fact that one edition of my magazine will feature a director/producer of a film and the other a character from the film I will take some photos indoors and some outdoors. this may help to create a different atmosphere for both covers. for the image taken of the producer/director of a film I think an outside shoot would help to create a natural and vulnerable image focused on the talent of the producer/director. as for the character I am likely to choose an indoor setting which may help to add context to the image.

Costume?

As for costumes, on one edition of my magazine featuring the director/producer of a film, I think a simplistic and neutral outfit will suit the shoot best. This will help to remain the focus on the talent of the director/producer rather than anything else. As for that of the character, the costume will be decided once I have consolidated my decision on who it will be.

Props?

I think it is unlikely that I will need to use any props for either of my images, however I may use a chair or a seat for my model to sit on. As well as this, I am wanting my model to be a character from a film which may require the use of props to help create this effect.

Body language of model?

As for the body language of my models, one edition will feature a relaxed and almost slouched position to convey the producer/director as relatable. the other will mimic that of the characters.

Lighting?

I will be using a range of different lighting to figure out which fits best to my model and location etc. I may choose to edit some images to adjust the lighting if necessary

3. Who will be taking your photographs and what equipment will they use?

Most of the photography will be done by me and on my mobile phone. However, if I need to feature in any images for the website or contents pages i will ask a trusted friend to take the photos under my direction to ensure I have full creative control. I also hope to use other forms of photography, taken with a professional camera and studio lighting.
